Metro Vancouver building occupants often assume they have Toxic Black Mold based on visible signs of mold that is black in colour. This is not always a correct assumption.
What is Toxic Black Mold?
The Stachybotrys species of mold is commonly referred to as Toxic Black Mold or Black Mold. Stachybotrys is a toxigenic (toxic) species of mold and it usually appears as black or dark green in colour. It should be noted that not all mold black in colour is Toxic Black Mold (Stachybotrys) or toxigenic and not all toxigenic mold is black in colour. You cannot tell by looking at visible mold if it is in fact Toxic Black Mold (Stachybotrys).
Toxic Black Mold Testing
Mold testing is the only way to accurately determine the species of mold to classify it into a mold group and determine if it is Toxic Black Mold (Stachybotrys) or a less harmful species. See ABM Environmental Mold Testing for more information on this service.
